Is EHP Lab’s OxyShred suitable for weight loss?
EHP Labs claims that OxyShred is a scientifically researched and efficaciously dosed potent thermogenic weight loss supplement. OxyShred’s weight loss ingredient are L-Carnitine, Insulin Fibre, Coffee Bean Extract and Raspberry ketones.
It’s no surprise, as L-Carnitine has been found to increase the rate of weight loss in people (and animals) who engage in a weight loss program – that is to say, they limit calorie intake and increase physical activity. We did a bit of research on L-Carnitine’s benefits and you can read more about it here. One important point we noticed however, is that L-Carnitine does not work as a weight loss supplement without changes in diet and exercise. When taken as part of a weight loss program, it has been shown to increase the speed of weight loss.
What about Inulin Fibre – well some studies have found that Inulin Fibre can improve gut health, digestion and curb appetite. Recent studies found that gut macrobiotics can play a significant role in weight management. For people who have had gut issues, discomfort or irritability, inulin fibre may be the key element which restores gut health and have a positive effect on weight management.
Coffee Bean Extract is used in pretty much every weight loss product on the market. OxyShred is caffeinated and has 150mg of caffein per serve (about the same amount of caffein in 1.5 black coffees). Caffein is the most popular weight loss supplement in the world and is used to assist with energy production. It has also been found to increase metabolic functions in some people.
Raspberry ketones are a contentious weight loss supplement. A study in 2005 found that mice who consumed raspberry ketones with a high fat diet were better at metabolising fats compared to rats who didn’t consume raspberry ketones. There has been limited research on the effect of raspberry ketones in humans.
Is EHP Lab’s OxyShred a Pre-workout?
EHP Lab’s OxyShred has directions on the package to consume the product as an early morning drink and also prior to training on days of training as a pre-workout. So yes, OxyShred can be used as a preworkout – however is it a great Pre-workout? Not really.
Although there are some Pre-workout ingredients in OxyShred, it’s missing Beta Alanine and Citrulline Malate to make it a real complete pre-workout supplement. However, for people not engaging in heavy weight lifting, the Caffeine, Taurine and L-Tyrosine will still give you a boost of energy and endurance.
